As we age, our skin starts to lose its youthful appearance begins to show signs of wear and tear. Sun damage to our skin caused by years of exposure and probably lots of those years without SPF starts to show too. I know for me that’s been the case.
I never used to bother with SPF at all. I considered myself to be one of the lucky one’s that didn’t need to use any sort of cover or indeed any kind of anti-aging skin care products to retain youthful looking skin, preferring instead to wash my face with soap and water and bung on a ton of Nivea. That was that, I was sorted. Only I wasn’t. Well I was for the time being. Unfortunately I neglected to see the value of a well researched anti-aging skin care regime. It wasn’t until I got into my forties that I started to really notice the effect the sun had on my skin. I do truly believe that most of our lines, wrinkles and marks are down to the sun. Genetics play a part of course. But mostly we can hold our lack of attention to adequate sun protection accountable.
How Can we Reverse the Signs of Ageing?
I have been working on this very question for a couple of years! I have researched and tried many products. Some expensive and some not so much. I can honestly say that the last expensive skin care products, for me are the most effective.
It is completely possible to reverse skin ageing. Below is a list of the products I use everyday in order to reverse skin damage and maintain a healthy glowing complexion all year round.
- Baby oil as a makeup remover
- Epaderm Hydrating Cream
- Squalene from The Ordinary
- Retin-A – 0.05%
- Bobbi Brown Extra Eye Repair Cream
- Nivea (yep I still use it)
- Glycolic acid toner
- SPF 30 (minimum)
Some of these products I use in the evening and some in the morning. I never mix glycolic and retin-a. Bobbi Brown’s extra eye repair cream is not inexpensive, but it is bloody brilliant! I only ever buy the travel size as a little goes a really long way with this product.
If you want to see how I apply my night-time skin care then take a look at my Youtube video. Although this is aimed at stopping peeling and dry skin, if you take out the retin-a it is still a standalone skin care routine and perfect for budgets.

The Best Face Mask for Damaged Skin
Turmeric! You simply cannot beat this amazing mask. Beware: You might have a yellow tinge unless you adequately remove it!
What does turmeric do? It is an amazing skin lightener. So if you have any red blotches or spots then it will do a great job of taking the redness out.
- Tablespoon of turmeric
- Tablespoon of natural yogurt
- splash of olive oil
- Teaspoon of honey
Mix it all up together and apply to your whole face and neck. You don’t have to do your neck, but I like to include it in my anti-aging skin care routine.
Combine Oils and Hydrating Creams
Promoting soft youthful skin
I have found that by using oil and hydrating cream together, I get better results. My skin has become softer and is not as dry as it used to be, which in turn makes lines less visible.
DRINK LOTS OF WATER. Drinking water throughout the day aids in our quest to keep our skin looking youthful. water keep skin super-hydrated and plumps it out a little too.
Stay looking young and beautiful and remember beauty radiates from within. Gotta get a bit of LOA in there!
